Udai Veer Singh

Dr. Udai Veer Singh (Kulhari) is an Indian Forest Service officer from Karnataka cadre. He is known for his his works in the field of Conservation and Protection of the Forests and Environment.

Early life

He is from a small village (Tokha Ka Bas) of Surajgarh Panchait Samittee in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, India, in a marginal farmer’s family.

Education

He did his entire education in Government schools and colleges. He did his Masters degree in Zoology and Ph.D. in Neuroendocrine glands in Lepidopterans.

Career in Indian Forest Service

He joined Indian Forest Service in 1985 and retired on 30.9.2017. He worked at various capacities during this period in the Forest and Environment Department including Nodal officer Forest Conservation Act 1980, Karnataka Pollution Control Board, Lake Development Authority and Medicinal plant Authority.

He worked in Karnataka State Lokayukta for Investigation into the illegal mining in the Karnataka State and more specific in Bellary sector and submitted final report in more than 25000 pages which sent strong message in the country and followed by many reforms/amendments in laws and others.In his report he has indicted four Chief ministers, many ministers, MLAs, IAS,IPS & IFS officers and more than 750 other officials in 13 departments. Dr. Singh was a member of Shri Justice M B Shah Commission of Inquiry for illegal mining of iron and manganese ores in the Country and submitted 15 reports on the States of Goa, Orissa and Jharkhand on iron ore illegal mining. The reports submitted by Commission was accepted by Parliament of India and follow-up actions were taken. Due to these reports, more than Rs.31000.0 Crores have been recovered so far. Dr. Singh has been appointed as member of Monitoring Committees for E-auction of iron ores for Karnataka and Goa States by the H, ble Supreme Court. He is currently working as member of this Committee in Karnataka. He is also working as expert member of a Committee appointed by National Green Tribunal on rejuvenation of lakes in Bangalore. Dr. Singh is one of the best experts on mining matters in the country. His expertise in rehabilitation and reclamation of mines is well known. He has rich experience in restoration of Lakes, STPs, Biodiversity, Wildlife and Environmental legal matters.

Dr. Singh has published more than 21 research papers in International and National reputed Journals in the fields of biodiversity, lakes, water pollution, insect hormones and wild life. Dr Singh authored 13 books with Justice M.B. Shah and Justice N. Santosh Hegde (both retd. Hble Judges of Supreme Court) in the field of mining, corruption, cybercrimes and others. He is a visiting faculty of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy Dehradun and International Centre for Environment Audit and Sustainable Development Jaipur. He had been confirmed as Best Civil Servant Award 2011during his service. Dr. Singh has also been trained in USA and Australia in the field of forestry and Rural development.
