Vir Chakra
Vir Chakra (Vr.C.) is an Indian gallantry award presented for acts of bravery in the battlefield. It replaced the British Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), Military Cross (MC) and Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). Award of the decoration carries with it the right to use Vr.C. as a postnominal abbreviation (note the care to distinguish this abbreviation from that for the Victoria Cross (V.C.). It is third in precedence in the war time gallantry awards and comes after the Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra.

- Baljit Singh Gill, Vir Chakra, Unit - 12 Jat (Ex 31 Jat), played very important role during Operation Cactus Lily in Indo-Pak War 1971. On 23 December 1971, he was in charge of a party detailed to lay an ambush in the Eastern Sector. In this operation, he displayed commendable courage, professional skill and leadership of a high order. He was awarded 'Vir Chakra'. He retired as a Brigadier. His two sons are also serving in the army.
- Bhagat Singh Lali (Major) (13.03.1941 - 15.09.1965) became martyr on 15.09.1965 during Indo Pak War-1965 at Ringpain in Jammu and Kashmir. He inflicted heavy casualties on enemy. He was awarded Vira Chakra for his act of bravery. He was from Kala Nangal village in tahsil Batala of Gurdaspur district in Indian Punjab.

- Deependra Bhuchar (Major), Vira Chakra (Posthumous), became martyr on 23 August 1997 in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir fighting with the militants. He was from Firozpur, Punjab.

- Ganga Ram Nuwad (Naik) (05.02.1963-12.10.1987), Vira Chakra (posthumous), became martyr on 12.10.1987 during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. He was from Peenglod village in Kishangarh tehsil in District Ajmer, Rajasthan.
- Unit: 10 Parachute Regiment (Desert Scorpion).
- Gopal Ram Sahu (born:07.07.1910) (Vira Chakra) played an important role of bravery on 13.04.1948 during Indo-Pak War 1947-48. He belonged to Suratpura village in Rajgarh tahsil of Churu district in Rajasthan. Unit: 1 Grenadiers Regiment. He retired from Army as Honourary Captain.
- Harbhajan Singh Atwal (LNK) (15.03.1947 - 06.01.2019), Vir Chakra, fought Indo-Pak War 1971 in eastern sector bravely for which he was awarded Vir Chakra.
- Unit: 4 Sikh Regiment. He retired from Army as an honourary captain. He died on 06.01.2019.
- Hardev Singh Grewal (Major) (10.12.1938 - 10.12.1971) became martyr on 10.12.1971 in Chhamb sector during Indo-Pak War-1971. He was awarded Vir Chakra for his act of bravery during the war. He was from Ludhiana, Punjab.

- Jai Pal Ridhau was from village Ridhau in Sonipat district of Haryana. He was awarded Vira Chakra for his act of bravery at Zojila during Indo-Pak War 1947-48. He was in Unit - 3 Jat Regiment (Dograi Battalion).

- Sunil Khokhar - Captain Sunil Khokhar (5.5.1966-7.5.1994) (Vir Chakra) was a second generation soldier. He became martyr on May 7, 1994 in ‘Operation Meghdoot’ at Siachen Glacier. He is from Kansala, Rohtak, Haryana. His father Satish Kumar Khokhar served in the Army for 28 years and retired as Honorary Captain.
- Pale Ram Dalal (Hon. Captain) (born:20.5.1922), Vir Chakra, MM, from village Daboda Kalan in Bahadurgarh Tehsil of Jhajjar district in Haryana. He fought 1947-48 Indo-Pak war.
