Vishalya River (विशल्या) river is mentioned in Mahabharata (2-9-24). It is probably a river of Orissa state in India flowing near Vaitarani.

History

1) Viśalyā (विशल्या).—A river famous in the Purāṇas. Mention is made in Mahābhārata, Sabhā Parva, Chapter 9, Stanza 20, that this river stays in the Palace of Varuṇa glorifying him. This is a holy river. One could obtain the fruits of Agniṣṭoma Yajña (a sacrifice) by taking a bath in this river.[1] [2]

2) Viśalya (विशल्य).—A medicine. This medicine is used to extricate the arrow-heads that might have stuck on the body. (Mahābhārata Vana Parva, Chapter 289, Stanza 6)[3][4]

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 9 mentions the Kings Oceans and the Rivers who attended Sabha of Varuna. Vishalya River (विशल्या) is mentioned in Mahabharata (2-9-24). [5]..... the Godavari, the Krishna-Venna and that queen of rivers the Kaveri; the Kimpuna, the Vishalya and the river Vaitarani also;

विशल्या नदी

विशल्या नदी (AS, p.862): महाभारत, सभापर्व 9,20 के अनुसार एक नदी जिसका उल्लेख किंपुना तथा वैतरणी के साथ किया गया है- 'किंपुना च विशल्या च तथा वैतरणी नदी।' वैतरणी उड़ीसा की नदी है। विशल्या इसी के समीप बहने वाली कोई नदी जान पड़ती है। [6]
