Dhotar (धोतर)[1] [2] is a Muslim Jat clan found in Pakistan. Dhotar (धोतर) Jat tribe, almost entirely confined to Gujranwala. They are mostly Hindus, and claim to be descended from a Solar Race who emigrated from Hindustan or, according to another story, from Ghazni, some 20 generations back. [3]

History

Dhothar Jats are the descendants of Indo-scythian tribes same as other jat gotras. As per the custom of Jat Tribes. They adopted their village name as their gotras.

Dhotar - The Dhotar are found mainly in Ludhiana District, Punjab India. Also few of them are in Firozpur. District Karnal, Haryana has quite large population of dhothars. Also, Dhothars are found in Bilaspur District Rampur, Uttar pradesh India. In Pakistan they have large population in Gujranwala District. They claim close connection with the Virk Jats. Dhothars are direct descendents of Bhai Sachan Sach who served Third Sikh Guru, Amar Das Ji. After Guru Amar Das Ji gave one of the 22 manji to Bhai Sachan Sach, large population of dhothars adopted Sikhi.
