Geedam (गीदम) is a village in Dantewara tahsil of Dantewara district in Chhattisgarh. Author (Laxman Burdak) visited Kakalgur on 18.07.1982.

According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Geedam village is 450621. Geedam village is located in Sukma tehsil of Dakshin Bastar Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, India. It is situated 8km away from sub-district headquarter Sukma (tehsildar office) and 86km away from district headquarter Dantewada. As per 2009 stats, Rampuram is the gram panchayat of Geedam village. The total geographical area of village is 555.82 hectares. Sukma is nearest town to geedam for all major economic activities, which is approximately 8km away. Pincode of geedam village locality is 494111.[1]

18.07.1982: Jagdalpur - Geedam - Dantewara - Forest and back, 8.30 – 17 Hrs. Conservator of Forest Jagdalpur Mr PM Rajwade picked me from my residence in the morning to accompany him on his tour. Visited Gidam nursery and Dantewara Timber Depot with CF Jagdalpur Mr PM Rajwade. Reached Geedam at 11 Hrs and Dantewara at 12 Hrs. Visited Danteshwari Temple with him in afternoon.

The town Dantewara is named after the goddess Danteshwari, the presiding deity of the Danteshwari Temple. The goddess Danteshwari is worshipped as an incarnation of Shakti and the temple is held to be one of the fifty-two sacred Shakti Peethas. Situated in Dantewada, south-west of Jagdalpur, at the confluence of the holy rivers Shankini & Dhankini, this six hundred year old temple is one of the ancient heritage sites of India and is a representation of the religio-socio-cultural history of the Bastar region.

Geedam is one of an important local market place for forest products. Tribal living in nearby jungle and villages bring forest products like mahua (used for making country beer), tora (used for making fuel oil), chironji, silk insect, dried mangoes. Tribals sell these things to local vendors. These markets are not only place for selling and buying forest products but also for green vegetable, fruits, local beer, clothes, fish and meat. Most of the vegetables sold in the market is locally grown. Mostly the population is earning through business and shop keeping. Weekly market on Sundays become a spot for this business and earning. Most of the people are selling vegetables and fruits in this market and also desi chicken is sold in this market.

Geedam has a total population of 634 peoples, out of which male population is 293 while female population is 341. Literacy rate of Geedam village is 13.88% out of which 17.41% males and 10.85% females are literate. There are about 151 houses in Geedam village. [2]
