Bhakar (भाकर) Bhakkar (भाकर) Bhaskar (भास्कर) Bhaskara (भास्कर) Bhakhar (भाकर) Bhankal (भांकल) is gotra of Jats found in Distt Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Tonk etc in Rajasthan.

History

They have originated from place called Bhasiana. They are also said to be descended from Prabhakara Nagavanshi. ^[1] The district Bhakar Darya Khan city is in Pakistan where many Mahotas families live in.

The Mahabharata - Aswamedha Parva Book 14:Section VIII Kisari Mohan Ganguli, tr. 1883-1896 mentions about Bhaskar as protectors of gold mines of Kuvera as under:

"Samvarta said, "There is a peak named Munjaban on the summits of the Himalaya mountains, where the adorable Lord of Uma (Mahadeva) is constantly engaged in austere devotional exercises. ...And, O foremost of conquerors, on all sides of that mountain, there exist mines of gold, resplendent as the rays of the sun. And O king, the attendants of Kuvera, desirous of doing good to him, protect these mines of gold from intruders, with uplifted arms. Hie thee thither, and appease that adorable god who is known by the names of ....Harinetra, Munda, Krishna, Uttarana, Bhaskara, Sutirtha, etc. This is made clear in shloka 15 :

हरि केशाय मुण्डाय कृशायॊत्तारणाय च

भास्कराय सुतीर्दाय देवदेवाय रंहसे (XIV.8.15)
