Badgaon (बड़गांव) or Bargaon (बड़गांव) is a Jat village, mainly of Badiyasar gotra, in Merta tehsil of Nagaur district in Rajasthan.

Founders

Badgaon was founded by Jats of Badiyasar gotra about 1600 years back (c.410 AD.).[1] According to historian Dr Pema Ram this date is not authentic, it must be 1600 AD, when many villages in this region were founded by Badiyasar clan.

Location

It is situated at a distance of 20 kms from Merta and 100 km from Nagaur in Rajasthan. Village is located on Merta - Kurdaya (कुरड़ाया) - Borunda (Jodhpur district) Road.

PIN Code of the village is: 341510. Being a large village, Bargaon village has got its own gram panchayat. Looniyas, Khakharki and Mugdara are some of the neighbouring villages.

History

It was founded by Jats of Badiyasar gotra hence called Badgaon. Area of the village is 16000 bigha. The village is known for sacred ponds and living samadhis in this region. The Kisan Kesari Baldev Ram Mirdha is very popular in the village. The disputes in the village are settled in the village itself through mutual understanding, nobody goes to police or courts to settle their cases.[2]

Jat Gotras

Out of 1000 families in the village 200 families are of Jats. Majority of Jats are of gotra Badiyasar.

Other castes include - Meghwal, Rajput, Nath, Chaukidar, Harijan and Brahman.

Population

According to Census-2011 information:

With total 432 families residing, Bargaon village has the population of 2045 (of which 1033 are males while 1012 are females).[3]

Monuments

The village has a holy Ranjit pond. There is one dhuni of Devidasji. There are three Charbhuja temples, one Mahadeva temple. There are live samadhi sthalas of Sarupnathji, Kishan Das Maharaj and Surjanpuri. Most famous sthal is the live samadhis of four persons from family of Dhain Dasji (धैनदास). There is a sacred place of Chawandi Baba (चवंडी बाबा).[4]
