Location

According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Chanauta village is 013730. Chanauta village is located in Dharmpur tehsil of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated 55km away from district headquarter Dharmpur. Dharmpur is the sub-district headquarter of Chanauta village. As per 2009 stats, Chanota is the gram panchayat of Chanauta village. The total geographical area of village is 115.9 hectares.[1]


Chanota is a Village in Dharmpur Tehsil in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh State, India. It is located 25 KM towards west from District head quarters Mandi. 102 KM from State capital Shimla. Chanota Pin code is 175024 and postal head office is Sarkaghat . Chanota is surrounded by Chauntra Tehsil towards North , Bamson Tehsil towards South , Tira Sujanpur Tehsil towards west , Bhoranj Tehsil towards South . Hamirpur , Mandi , Sundarnagar , Nangal are the near by Cities to Chanota. This Place is in the border of the Mandi District and Hamirpur District. Hamirpur District Bamson is South towards this place .[2]

Origin

History

Dr Naval Viyogi[3] writes....Most probably Nagas moved from Kashmir valley and settled in different valleys of Himachal Pradesh. Still today these Nagas can be Seen in numerous temples and heard in legends throughout the modern province of Himachal Pradesh.

There is also another Naga in Chamba state called Indru Naga. This is the same as Nahusha whose story is told in the Mahabharata. Indru Naga is worshiped at several paces : at Kuārsi on the road leading to Dharmasala, at Samra in Ranhun kothi, at Chanota and Trehta. There is also another temple of Indru Naga at Kanhiarā in Kangra. [4]

Chanauta has a total population of 377 peoples, out of which male population is 178 while female population is 199.
