The etymology of the city's name is shrouded in mystery. Some people suggest that the city got its name derived from the lake named Nirwana, situated near Baba Gaibi Sahib Temple. While, some people suggests that people with Maur gotra resided in Narwana with a large number of population, and the place was their stronghold and was often termed as Morwana, and that later-on it was termed as Narwana.
