Mahota (महोता) gotra Jats live in Sindh and Punjab provinces in Pakistan. Mahota is the sub cast of Jats , but some Mahotas believe that they are the sub caste of Baloch, some think them belonging to Awan and some consider themselves as Rajputs. In Jats some believe that they are Kharal, Bhati or Somra. Most probably Mahota sub cast is the cast of Abra.

Mahota in Mahabharata

The Mahabharata Book 2:Chapter 29, Sabha Parva by Kisari Mohan Ganguli, tr. 1883-1896 locates the Trigartas, the Dasarnas, the Sivis, the Amvashtas, the Malavas, the five tribes of the Karnatas around Rohtak in Haryana. Nakula subjugated the whole of the desert country and the region known as Sairishaka and also that other one called Mahetta (Mahota).

ततॊ बहुधनं रम्यं गवाश्वधनधान्यवत

कार्तिकेयस्य दयितं रॊहीतकम उपाद्रवत ।। 4 ।।

tato bahudhanaṃ ramyaṃ gavāśvadhanadhānyavat

kārtikeyasya dayitaṃ rohītakam upādravat

तत्र युद्धं महद वृत्तं शूरैर मत्तमयूरकैः

मरु भूमिं च कार्त्स्न्येन तदैव बहु धान्यकम ।। 5 ।।

tatra yuddhaṃ mahad vṛttaṃ śūrair mattamayūrakaiḥ

maru bhūmiṃ ca kārtsnyena tathaiva bahu dhānyakam ।। 5 ।।

शैरीषकं महेच्छं च वशे चक्रे महाद्युतिः

शिबींस तरिगर्तान अम्बष्ठान मालवान पञ्च कर्पटान ।। 6 ।।

śairīṣakaṃ mahecchaṃ ca vaśe cakre mahādyutiḥ

śibīṃs trigartān ambaṣṭhān mālavān pañca karpaṭān ।। 6 ।।

Vaisampayana said,--"I shall now recite to you the deeds and triumphs of Nakula, and how that exalted one conquered the direction that had once been subjugated by Vasudeva. The intelligent Nakula, surrounded by a large host, set out from Khandavaprastha for the west, making this earth tremble with the shouts and the leonine roars of the warriors and the deep rattle of chariot wheels. And the hero first assailed the mountainous country called Rohitaka that was dear unto (the celestial generalissimo) Kartikeya and which was delightful and prosperous and full of kine and every kind of wealth and produce. And the encounter the son of Pandu had with the Mattamyurakas of that country was fierce. And the illustrious Nakula after this, subjugated the whole of the desert country and the region known as Sairishaka full of plenty, as also that other one called Mahetta (Mahota). And the hero had a fierce encounter with the royal sage Akrosa. And the son of Pandu left that part of the country having subjugated the Dasarnas, the Sivis, the Trigartas, the Amvashtas, the Malavas, the five tribes of the Karnatas, and those twice born classes that were called the Madhyamakeyas and Vattadhanas. And making circuitous journey that bull among men then conquered the (Mlechcha) tribes called the Utsava-sanketas."^[1]

Distribution

The for fathers of the author belonged to district and Teh Gujrat of police station Jalapurjatan. Along with river Chenab there are two villages Mahota Kalan and Alisher Mahota. The mirase of these villages tell that ancestors of the author belonged to Hazrat Amerhamze Razeallahaana who was the uncle of Muslim holy prophet and belong to Hoot cast of Baloch. Syed chan pir kirmani taqvi sajada nasheen hazzarat doad bandi kirmani taqi sher garh dist okara family also has family trees connected with the author. It was on their saying Mahotas impressed with Islam at the time of Akbar.

There is one village named Mahota in district Sialkot at police station Headmarala . There are many families of Mahotas near Sialkoat in Langray Wali , Rangpur, Kakawale villages. In district Hafizabad near Jalal Pur Bhatian in vinkay tarrar there is one village Muzaffar Kuhana (Muzafar Mahota). From the two ancestral villages of Mahotas in Gujrat they spread to district Mandi Bahudin, Sargoda, Faisalabad, Lyia, Badden, Hyderabad, Karachi, Bhukkar, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Tobatak Sing, Shaikhupura, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Nawabshah, Tandoallahyar, Mirpurkhas, Bahawalpur.

Many Mohatas families live In district Bhakar Darya Khan city. Near about this city there is one village Mahota and another village Rakh Mahota, but no Mahota families live there at present. There are many homes of Mahotas in Paka Mulana and Kat Shahani in district Dera Ismail Khan of frontier province. There are some homes of Mahotas in Dera Ismail Khan city .

In Dera Ghazi Khan in police station Kot Chatta two villages of Mahotas in Khan Garah dist Muzaffar Garah, two homes in district Multan Bosan road. Moza Anayat Pur Mahota has population of 15 thousand Mahotas living there.

In dist Khaniwal many Mahota families live, these Mahotas have changed their name to Mehota. Some call them Meta Mahar Ishaqeta. Meta councilor khanawal claims that Meta is nickname of Mahota and his forefathers belong to Varyam Basti Mahota Wali (Muta Wali) tehsil Shoarkhot dist Jang. There are many homes of Mahotas in district Khanawal near tahsil Shorekot and other village near shoarkhoat Dub Klan, in village Doga Malang. Some homes of Mahotas are also in tahsil Chaniot .

In dist Toba Take Sing near Kamalia is one village of Mahotas. These people are known as Mota who actullay belong to Jang, these are called Blocah but that clam is not true .

The Salanwali dist Sargoda has many homes of Mahotas. In district Khoshab village Hamoka and village Rowada there are many homes of Mahotas. In Hjamoka village Mahota reside near Chakian. Here Mahota town is bulding chakian is situated near Sargoda city.

In distt Bahawalpur near Chani Goth Daha Ahmed Naich Mahotas live but they call themselves Dhawa- another clan of Jats. There was a problem with their forefathers so they called themselve Dhowa .

In dist Rawalpindi police station Chontra there are villages Mahota, Mara, Misarayal. But they are called Bhatai Rajput. One Bhati Rajput told that their forefather's name was Mahota and he was Bhati by caste and he came from dist Hafizabad and these villages were founded in the names of sons of Mahota wich belong to bhati tribe.

In district Larkana there is one village name Mahota, this is near Larkana police station, railway station and post office Mahota , Tapal Mahota is above moza and below teshil. These Mahotas told that about 2300 years ago Sikandar (Alexander) passed from this way and Mahota village was there and Mahota comunity lived in it. This fact is conformed by Wikipedia that Sikandar (i-e Alexander) attacked Sindh in 330 B.C. His forces had crossed little known village as Mahota. It was named by his forces as Maota in Greek.^[2]

In Balochistan district Dera Murad Jamale one village Rehmatullah Mahota is there but there is no Mahota in it .

My forefather came to Chak 10 shamali (north) Qudratabad tahsil Balwal district Sargoda chak 135 near soni jhal bus stop tehsil sumandri dist Faisalabad. My grand-grand father CH Noor din Mahota, grand father CH Imam din Mahota are buried at Qudratbad . My grand father came to Karachi in 1922 and he did engineering in civil and retired XEN in Irrigation department in the year 1963 and died in 1969. He purchased property in Tandoallayar and lived in Hyderabad and died at Hyderabad .

I and my father were born at Hyderabad Sind and I am electrical engineer.

Mahotas out of Pakistan

In Nepal one dist is named Mahottari and one village named Mahota is in dist Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, India. One village in Bihar province, its name is Mahota arazi. Other details are in my book history of Mahota Jat.

Languages

Mahota in Punjab write Choudray, Malik, Khan and Mahar and in Larkana Mahota called rais and khan. Mahotas speak Punjabi, Saraki, Sindhi languages.

Religion

In Larkana and Multan many mahota are shia and majotity belong Al-sunat jamatand they are Bralvi, Dwwbandiand Al-hadis.
