According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Koleng village is 449624. Koleng village is located in Darbha tehsil of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh, India. It is situated 27 km away from sub-district headquarter Darbha (tehsildar office) and 63 km away from district headquarter Jagdalpur. As per 2009 stats, Koleng village is also a gram panchayat. The total geographical area of village is 987.78 hectares. [1]

Author (Laxman Burdak) mentioned the village in his diary of 22.12.1982:
22.12.1982: Darbha – Koleng (कोलेंग) with SDO Kanger RN Mishra on Jeep MPZ-7484, 30 km by forest road, 12-14 hrs. Inspected the dense and rich forest enroute. There is no single habitation in 30 km patch. Left the Jeep in Forest Rest House Koleng and went from Koleng to Chhindgur village on foot about 4km and came back after inspection of forest. Night halt at Koleng. Discussed problems with tribal villagers. Villagers arranged camp fire and dance in the night by young tribal ladies. Ladies sing song while dancing in circle around fire. Though the tribal men and women were almost without clothes but I found them tension free and happiest persons on the earth. One tribal had a wooden implement to kill rats. Its design impressed me so I purchased it from the villager. I kept this tool in my drawing room. While resting in forest inspection hut we could see a nearby hill called chandipahar, which according to villagers has silver deposits.
