Jambuprastha (जम्बूप्रस्थ) is a town mentioned by Panini in Ashtadhyayi. It is also mentioned in Ramayana and Mahabharata.

History

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[3] ने लेख किया है ...जम्बूप्रस्थ: 'तोरणं दक्षिणार्धेन जम्बूप्रस्थं समागतम्' वाल्मीकि रामायण अयो.71,11. इस स्थान को भरत ने केकय से अयोध्या आते समय गंगा के पूर्व की ओर पार किया था. तोरण नामक ग्राम भी इसी के निकट है.

In Mahabharata

Shalya Parva, Mahabharata/Book IX Chapter 44 mentions the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo, the diverse gods, various clans who joined it. Jambuka (जम्बुक) warriors are listed twice in verse (IX.44.69)[4] and (IX.44.71)[5]

In Ramayana

Ayodhya Kanda/Canto LXXI mentions Bharat's Return from Kekaya to Ayodhya.....He soon reached the great river, Bharathi, which is difficult to be crossed, at the city of pragvata in the region of Amsudhana. Crossing the River Ganga at the city of Pragvata, he reached the river Kulikoshthika, traversed it along with his army and then arrived at the region of Dharmavardhana. Bharata reached Jambuprastha village, which is located at the southern part of Torana region and from there he arrived at a beautiful village too, named Varutha. Making a camp in that beautiful forest there, he traveled towards the east and reached a garden in the city of Ujjihana, in which there are a number of Kadamba trees. Having reached Sala and Kadamba trees, Bharata yoked swifter horses to his chariot, allowed his army to come after him and quickly went ahead.

जंबूप्रस्थ

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[6] ने लेख किया है ..जंबूप्रस्थ (AS, p.351) का उल्लेख वाल्मीकि रामायण, अयोध्याकांड 71, 11 में हुआ है- 'तोरणं दक्षिणार्धेन जम्बूप्रस्थं समागतम्' इस स्थान को भरत ने केकय से अयोध्या जाते समय गंगा के पूर्व की ओर पार किया था। तोरण नामक एक ग्राम भी इसी के निकट अवस्थित था।
