Gotan

Gotan is a village in Merta tehsil of Nagaur district of Rajasthan, situated at a distance of 80 km from Nagaur. The village is well connected by rail and road. The village is 500 years old. There was thousands of bigha of grazing land in the village; the village got its name from go+than meaning the place for cows.
The village is converting into an industrial township due to existence of J.K. White cement factory. In addition there are about 50 limekilns, five hydrated lime plants and colour-paint plant.

Jats in the village
The village has about 20000 people dwelling in Gotan and nearby hamlets (dhani). There are about 500 families are of Jats with a population of about 3000. The biggest Jat gotra in the village is Khokhar with 125 families. Other Jat gotras (with families in bracket) are Matwa (75), Dookya (50), Senwar (20), Lamrod (16), Siyag (15), Sangwa (13), Jalwania (25), Karwasra (20), Jajra (10), Sirohi, Kala, Saran, and Bhadu etc.
Economy
Main occupation of villagers is agriculture but most of Jats are in government services, Limekilns, shops, business etc. 80% Jats are educated. The village has temples of Hanumanji, Mahadeoji, Satyanarayan, and a place of live samadhi of Ramdas – Syamdas and their temple.
Notable persons from this village
Bhagirat Karwasra and Bhawaru Ram Khokhar are martyrs from village whose statues are there in the village.
