Pindaraka (पिण्डारक) was a Nagavanshi ruler of period of Mahabharata. Pindaraka Tirtha is located at Pindara village in Jamnagar district of Gujarat.

History

पिण्डारक तीर्थ - द्वारका से 60 किमी दूर स्थित है। द्वारका-जामनगर रेल लाईन पर स्थित भोपालका स्टेशन से 35 किमी दूर है। यहाँ पिंड दान किया जाता है। भाटिया से 14 कि.मी. दूर पिंडारा नाम का गाँव है। [1]

In Mahabharata

Adi Parva

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Mahabharata Book I Chapter 35 gives us Names of Chief Nagas. Shloka 11 includes Pindaraka:

नागः शङ्खनकश चैव तथा च सफण्डकॊ ऽपरः
क्षेमकशमहानागॊ नागः पिण्डारकस तथा (1.35.11)

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Mahabharata Book I Chapter 57 names of all those Nagas that fell into the fire of this snake-sacrifice. Pindaraka was from Nagas of race of Dhritarashtra.

ऋषभॊ वेगवान नाम पिण्डारक महाहनू
रक्ताङ्गः सर्वसारङ्गः समृद्धः पाट राक्षसौ Mahabharata (1.57.16)

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Mahabharata Book I Chapter 188 gives us list of Kshatriyas who came on Swayamvara of Draupadi. Pindaraka is mentioned in shloka 18:

विडूरथशकङ्कशसमीकः सारमेजयः
वीरॊ वातपतिश चैव झिल्ली पिण्डारकस तथा
उशीनरशविक्रान्तॊ वृष्णयस ते परकीर्तिताः (1.188.18)

Vana Parva

Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 86 mentions the sacred tirthas of the south. There also is the tirtha called Pindaraka (पिण्डारक) (III.86.18), frequented by ascetics and capable of producing great merit.

तत्र पिण्डारकं नाम तापसाचरितं शुभम
उज्जयन्तश च शिखरी कषिप्रं सिद्धिकरॊ महान (III.86.18)

Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 80 mentions Merit attached to tirthas: One should next proceed with subdued senses and regulated diet to Dwaravati (द्वारवती) (3.80.82), where by bathing in Pindaraka (पिण्डारक) (3.80.82), one obtaineth the fruit of the gift of gold in abundance.

वरदाने नरः सनात्वा गॊसहस्रफलं लभेत
ततॊ दवारवतीं गच्छेन नियतॊ नियताशनः
पिण्डारके नरः सनात्वा लभेद बहुसुवर्णकम (3.80.82)
