Ram Niwas Mirdha

Ram Niwas Mirdha (राम निवास मिर्धा) (b.24 August 1924-d. 29 January 2010) was a well known politician and social worker from Marwar region of Rajasthan state in India. He was a member of Indian National Congress Party. He was the speaker of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Ram Niwas Mirdha was cabinet minister in Government of India in 1970s and has held many party positions.

His family
He was born at village Kuchera in Nagaur district of Rajasthan on 24 August 1924 in Hindu Jat family of Rad gotra. His father's Name is late Shri Baldev Ram Mirdha. His Spouse's name is Smt. Indira Mirdha. He has got two sons and one daughter. 1. Rajendra Mirdha; 2. Harendra Mirdha, born September 1949, married Ratan Mirdha daughter of Parasram Maderna. Joined politics, he has been Member Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Minister for Public Works Department in Government of Rajasthan (1998-2004). He had one daughter and one son Raghuvendra Mirdha.
Educational Qualifications
He is M.A., LL.B. Educated at Allahabad University, Allahabad, Lucknow University, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva (Switzerland). He was a Professional Agriculturist.

- Minister of Water Resources Department (January 1983-August 1984),
- Minister of External Affairs (August 1984-December 1984),
- Minister of Communication January (1985-October 1986),
- Minister of Textiles (Cabinet Rank), with additional charge of Health and Family Welfare (October 1986-December 1989),
- Member tenth Lok Sabha from Barmer, Rajasthan (1991-1996),
- Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee to inquire into irregularities in Securities and Banking Transactions 1992,

Social works
He was President of Surajmal Memorial Education Society at Delhi, which is a Prime Research Institute about Jats and their History. The Research wing of this Institute remained engaged in intensive study of the primary source on the history of Jats and to update the prominent works on Jat History under the chairmanship of Ramniwas Mirdha.The books published by this Institute are treated as most authentic and reliable work in the matters related with Jats and their history.
Cultural activities
He had been active in matters of cultural from very beginning.
- He was Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi for two terms (1976-1980) and (1990-1995),
- National Institute of Sports, Delhi Urban Arts Commission, Deputy Chairman Special Organizing Committee for IX Asian Games, and President, Youth hostel Association of India,
- He also worked as Co-Chairman of the Indo-US Subcommission on Culture and Education and has been a member of the executive Board of UNESCO and founder President of Indian Heritage Society, an active organization concerned with cultural and environment issues.
- He was also a trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).

He died on 29/01/2010 in Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi.
