History

According to Dr. Bhagwan Das who writes on the basis of rock inscriptions found in Nepal, the rulers of Thukrila gotra prior to the present ruling dynasty ruled Nepal. They ruled for three generations with their capital at Bhatgram till they were replaced by the present dynasty. It is also mentioned in the history of Nepal that King Hari Singh of Kashi took shelter in Nepal for fear of the Tughluks and later captured the throne by treachery.

According to Thakur Deshraj when Mahmud Gazanavi attacked Chittorgarh around 1046 AD, Jat rulers around Chittor moved from here to other places. W. Crook in his book ‘Tribes and Castes of North west provinces’ has mentioned that Dashand Singh was a ruler of Bijnore. After seize of Chittor by Muhamad Gori out of two persons of this Royal clan one moved to Nepal and other to Bijnore. It shows that those who went to Nepal were Thakuri and those at Bijnore were Thakurela.

Thakur Deshraj concludes that if Thakurela are of Thakuri clan of the rulers of Nepal then Maukhari are also Jats because they had relations. With this argument Harshavardhana is also Jat as Thakuri, Maukhari and descendants of Harshavardhana had marital relations. Jats have Maukhari gotra at present.
