Malla (मल्ल) Malay (मालय) is a gotra of Jats. They are Chandravanshi Jats. Malwa gets name after them. [1]They are mentioned in the Harivamsa and, as usual, a Mallāsura, (name of an Asura) is mentioned [2] Amarakosa defines Asura as Purvadeva i.e. a former god; obviously this must have been before the schism among the Aryans. [3] [4]
They have been mentioned in Mahabharata Bhisma Parva, shloka 45 as under:
