Jaol/Jael clan is found in Afghanistan.

Origin

This gotra seems to have originated from Nagavanshi mahapurusha Jwalajibha (जवाला जिह्व).

History

Shalya Parva, Mahabharata/Book IX Chapter 44 mentions about the warriors who came to the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo. Jewlia have been mentioned along with very important Nagas like Vasuki and Pannaga in shloka 48 and 56.

The evidence of the rule of Jewlia clan Jats are available in Kishangarh inscription in Rajasthan. A Jewlia Jat chieftain got constructed a Chhatri at Kishangarh in Rajasthan, India. To the southwest of this chhatri is a victory pillar. At this place there is a statue of a Jat chieftain of Jewlia gotra with an inscription of samvat 1111 (1054 AD). To the north of this chhatri at a distance of 15 feet there is an ancient masonry tank for drinking water for cows and a well. The well is constructed from well dressed and cut stones indicating its unique architecture and strength. To the west of this chhatri is a huge pond spread over 50 bigha land also constructed by Jewlia Jat chieftains.

There was a gold coin obtained in excavation near the above chhatri. The coin is engraved with image of the king with bow and arrow and on the other side there is agni-kund. This coin indicates that some ancestor of Jewlia clan was a king prior to 10th century.

जेवल्या की छतरी: नराना गांव

ठाकुर देशराज लिखते हैं कि किशनगढ़ में तीन छतरियां हमने देखीं - दो राजपूतों की और एक तीसरे वंश की छतरी देखी गई। यह छतरी बहुत ही पुरानी है और जेवल्या गोत के जाट सरदार की है। इसके पच्छिम-दक्षिण की ओर एक बड़ा भारी कीर्ति-स्तम्भ खड़ा है। इस पत्थर में मनुष्य की मूर्ति खुदी हुई है और संबत 1111 का लेख खुदा हुआ है। यह शिलालेख बहुत ही पुराना होने से घिस गया है इसलिए समूचा लेख साफ-साफ पढ़ने में नहीं आता। दूसरे दो राज-वंशों की छतरियों के पास ऐसे अक्षय पुण्यदान के चिन्ह देखने में नहीं आते जैसे जाट की छतरी के पास देखने में आ रहे हैं। छतरी से करीब दस हाथ उत्तर की ओर गौओं की प्यास के लिए कुआं बनाया गया है। इस कुएं की चुनाई अपनी प्राचीनता को बता रही है। पत्थरों को काटकर पूठियां खड़ी हुई हैं। जैसे गाड़ी के पहियों की पूठियां होती हैं, वैसी पूठियों को जोड़कर कुआं चुनाया गया है। इसलिए इस कुएं की मजबूती ऐसी है कि हजारों वर्ष तक रह सकता है। कुएं के पास गौओं को जल पीने के लिए खेली बनाई गई है। खेली की कारीगरी भी देखने योग्य है। पांच-पांच हाथ लम्बी और तीन-तीन हाथ चौड़ी पत्थर की शिलाओं को जमीन में गाड़कर खेली बांधी गई है, जिससे पत्थर की मरम्मत का सैकड़ों वर्षों तक भी काम न पड़ सके। लोगों से सुना गया है कि जिस जाट की कीर्ति को चिरकाल तक स्मरण रखने के लिए कुआं और छतरी बनाये थे, उसी महापुरुष का बनाया हुआ, उसकी छतरी के पश्चिम की ओर एक तालाब है जो गौओं के जल पीने के लिए खुदवाकर बनाया गया था। यह तालाब बड़ा भारी है। लगभग पचास बीघें में होगा। जाटों के खोजने से

थोड़े बहुत जो प्राचीन इतिहास के चिन्ह मिलते हैं वे प्रमाद, अत्याचार और दूसरों की बुराई के कभी नहीं मिलते। किन्तु संसार की भलाई, परोपकार, गोचर भूमि-दान, तालाब, कुआं और निर्बल की रक्षा करने के लिए वीरता, ये ही चिन्ह प्राचीन जाटवीरों के इतिहासों में मिलते हैं। नराना गांव के नीचे अठारह हजार बीघे जमीन है। अन्दाजन छः हजार बीघे जमीन जोती जाती है और करीब बारह हजार बीघों में गायें चरती है। इस गांव में गाय और भैंसों का झुंड देखकर सतयुग याद आता है। हर एक आदमी के घर में दूध दही के भण्डार भरे ही रहते हैं।

राजपूताने में जाटों के राज्यों के बाद कई राजवंशों के राज्य हो गए हैं। इसलिए जाटों के इतिहास खोजने के लिए सहसा कोई खड़ा नहीं होता। लोगों को ऐसा विश्वास नहीं होता कि राजपूताने में जाट सदा से हल जोतकर दूसरों को खिलाने वाले ही नहीं थे किन्तु जाट ही भूमिपति थे और अपनी भूमि की मालगुजारी जाट दूसरों से लेते थे।
