Khirwar (खिरवार) or Khirwal (खिरवाल) or Khinwal (खिनवाल) Khirwali (खिरवाली) is a clan or gotra of Jats found in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in India. Khirwars are descendants of Raja Khir. [1]

Raja Khir was son of Anirudha, the grand son of Krishna. Khirwars are descendants of Raja Khir. [2]
Rulers in Brij
Khirwar Jats were ruler in Brij area of Uttar Pradesh. Some Khiwars moved to Madhya Pradesh in eighteenth century.
Rulers of Narsinghpur Madhya Pradesh
Khirwars in Madhya Pradesh are known as Khinwal. They are found in Harda and Hoshangabad districts of Madhya Pradesh. In these areas they were also awarded the title of "Bhonsale Bahadur". The Khirwars occupied good land for cultivation on the banks of Narmada. In 1782 a Jat chieftain of Khirwar gotra from Brij named Rao Jagannath came to Narsinghpur and founded this city. Narsinghpur earlier was a small village called 'Gadaria Khera'. They not only founded the city of Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh but also ruled for a long period. Khirwars of Narsinghpur were followers of god Nrisingh. Here they also constructed two temples of Nrisingawatar.
